Valentine’s Day is here!
Celebrated every February 14th, Valentine’s Day is named after Saint Valentine. Some believe it originated back in ancient Roman times, with the festival of Lupercalia. The festival was held in mid-February and was basically a way for people to hype up the coming of spring, by performing fertility rites and pairing off with each other.
The holiday popped up again in Geoffrey Chaucer’s medieval poem The Parliament of Fowls, in which the bird characters paired up with each other.
No matter its official origins, one thing is clear: Valentine’s Day is all about love. And there’s always love to celebrate in our lives.
